aaaaand, we're back...
Ok, I’ll just cut right to the point… It’s been awhile. This isn’t to say I haven’t been in the kitchen, because I definitely have been, but there are times when I just enjoy throwing things into pots and dishes and ignoring my pretty little measuring cups.  The good news is, Busy as a Brie is back. After many emails from friends and family with subtle hints to get...

Give Greens a Chance
Though I look forward to it, Thanksgiving scares me a bit in terms of nutritional value. I mean… potatoes are fine, but when combined with butter and cream, they are no longer saints. Somewhere amongst the buttery delicacies, the veggies get lost. I mean, seriously, who wants green beans when you can stuff your face with stuffing?  But maybe, if the greens were more interesting than...

Giving Thanks for Brussels Sprouts
One of my co-workers surprised me with an impressive stalk of brussels sprouts the other day and since they are by far my favorite fall treat, I thought I would share this side dish with you. Are you hosting Thanksgiving? Might I suggest this as a perfect best friend to your turkey? I’m getting pretty excited about preparing my first “bird” (as my dad likes to say) this...

5 Ways to Eat Spaghetti Squash
Fall is here! Apple cider and gingerbread and Pumpkin Spice Lattes (probably the only time I go to Starbucks) and lots of hearty food. I am in love with the flavors of autumn… everything is warm and spicy and tastes like it came from heaven. So here’s the easiest thing in the world. Spaghetti squash. Probably the most difficult thing about preparing this honker is slicing it in...

We are leaving for Bulgaria in less than two weeks and I gotta say, I am pretty much only interested in daydreaming and anticipating. In turn, my kitchen time has been downsized to make room for these valuable and time consuming activities. But let’s be honest, my appetite certainly has not decreased, so I am really digging recipes that take minimal effort but still taste delicious. If...

Fall? Hello?
Is it too early to break out the pumpkin? Nope, didn’t think so. While here in Vegas, the days are still scorchers, I can imagine that elsewhere (as in, not the desert) people are experiencing fall-like temperatures. Am I right? Am I jealous? Yep. So I will be cranking up the air conditioning so as to simulate crisp, chilly September breezes just so I have an excuse to feel cozy in my...

This has to be one of the easiest ways to prepare fish. You would have to be armless, legless and eyeless to have trouble preparing this. In other words, if you are a human, this shouldn’t be trouble. I think fish, if it’s fresh, requires very little doctoring, especially when it’s meaty, flaky sea bass. The bright, clean flavors in this easy preparation make a great summer to...

Shrimptastic!
Confession: I once ate so many shrimp off a shrimp cocktail platter that it soured my love for the little pink crustaceans for 8 years. I distinctly remember eating them on my parents porch as a kid and thinking to myself, “Why the heck am I still eating these things? I am stuffed.” I couldn’t even stand to look at a shrimpy until recently. But the good news is, I am finally...

I love a BBQ, but especially a BBQ at the end of summer because it’s as if everyone feels the sun setting earlier, the light taking on that fall-ish feeling and so, they savor lingering outside with a beer around a fire pit with a plate of good food. Ivan is convinced that I put addictive drugs in this pasta, but I assured him that it is only bacon. But then again, maybe bacon could be...

Why I eat all day long...
Here’s the truth. I have never been one to eat just breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Eating three times a day just seems like cruel punishment. Instead, I prefer to eat 5 meals per day! Breakfast, “second” breakfast (as the hobbits call it), lunch, afternoon crash meal, pre-dinner crazy meal, and lastly, supper. I do this because a) I think about food 24 hours a day, so stretches of...

The Return to Food...
And we are back! After a long hiatus and many festivities, Busy as a Brie is returning to the blogosphere. I can’t tell you what a wonderful month it has been… Ivan and I had our long overdue Wedding Renewal/Party on Massachusetts’ spectacular Cape Ann and it was a million times better than I could have imagined! So now, I have about 45 new kitchen trinkets from our generous...

Ok, possibly I spoke too soon. It’s harder than I thought to stay away from Busy As a Brie! Of course, I have been in the kitchen, and I will admit, it’s nice sometimes to just cook by feel and not worry about writing down measurements, but I just made this batch of Pecan Sandies and as I was savoring my second one, I started to feel like I was cheating on you. They were so tasty...

I’m watching Wimbledon at the moment and John Isner and Nicolas Mahut are tied in the most epic game in the history of tennis. They have been playing for NINE HOURS and FIFTY EIGHT minutes! And I thought running a marathon was physically exhausting. Can you imagine? And they aren’t even done yet! Because of the fading light, they suspended the match and will resume play tomorrow! ...

I get so excited for road trips. My parents will probably find this funny since every time we took one as a family, something disastrous happened. Take, for example, the time we drove all the way to NYC with our French exchange student only to turn around right at the border because our trusty family van decided to start making odd and threatening noises. So instead of stopping to check it out,...

I am zooming out the door, late as usual! Just wanted to share this sugary, easy chocolate confection. I am planning on adapting this for Christmas gifts (maybe a little peppermint oil?), but I don’t think you need a holiday as an excuse to make it. Just a tip… When cutting into pieces, don’t cut with the knife, instead, simply stick the tip of the knife into the bark in...

Memorial Day Weekend is here! What are your plans? Like most people, we will be off to a BBQ and some sunny pool time! Here’s my first idea for an easy side you can tote with you to your BBQ bash. These things are as addicting as popcorn. Cauliflower is one of those things people either love or hate, but I bet you could convert a few people with these crunchy poppers. In fact, mix half...

Here’s a sad story… my computer crashed. I will admit that I should have known it was coming considering it was eight years old and seriously slow. I mean, so slow I could click on an icon, walk away, take a shower, make lunch, and go pick up the dry cleaning only to come back to find my ancient dinosaur still deep in the process of thinking. So, I solely take the blame for not backing...

Life is so great! I’m loving everything about the sun and days spent entirely outside that it’s been a little difficult to spend much time in the kitchen. From the moment I wake up and brew some coffee, I’m itching for a good book, a summer berry smoothie and my feet kicked up out on our patio. Turning on the oven just seems like a drag! Today was the first day in about two...

My #1 Cookie
I apologize for being a tease and making you wait two days for these, but considering I ate them all and had to make another batch, I hope you will understand. I don’t want to brag, but I make a silly good chocolate chip cookie. Growing up, I had my family convinced that I added a secret ingredient and kept them guessing by kicking them out of the kitchen every time I made a batch, but...

I know, I know. More tofu. But what can I say, I’m on a kick. I’m loving that you can whip up a simple marinade, drop in the tofu, pop it in the refrigerator and forget about it until you are ready to grill. Simple, simple, simple. Paired with crispy rice with spring sweet peas, this little take on Risi e Bisi is a perfectly satisfying lunch. I also will make you a promise. If you...

Farmer's Market Finds
I would like to give Mario Batali a huge bear hug. Every Thursday, Chef Batali asks local farms and organic vendors to set up shop in the warehouse that stores dry goods for his Vegas restaurants and gives us Vegas desert dwellers a chance to buy some really amazing produce. I don’t think if you live in the suburban side of the Northeast that you will quite understand what a pleasure and...
